Wolverine: Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool?

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on February 18, 2008

reynoldsdeadpool.jpgThe buzz around X-Men Origins: Wolverine is absolutely red hot right now. Just the other day we reported that The Blob would make an appearance, only to be bested by other sites that were reporting that both Silver Fox and Stryker had been cast as well. This all follows the fact that the production got underway earlier this month with Hugh Jackman (Logan/Wolverine) and Liev Schreiber (Victor Creed/Sabertooth) on set in New Zealand.

Today the folks at AICN are reporting another name that they say will be in the final credits of the film: Ryan Reynolds. Yes, the star of Van Wilder and the recently released rom-com Definitely, Maybe will make at the very least a cameo in the film as Deadpool. In the comics, Deadpool is a Canadian mercenary with a superhuman healing power similar to that of Wolverine. He is a master assassin with extraordinary hand-to-hand combat skills and is highly skilled with bladed weapons. He is basically a mix between a starfish (that can re-grow limbs) and a badass ninja. Also, as a Canadian, he enjoys watching hockey.

Of course all of this is just a rumor at this point, just like our own Blob story, but AICN seems to be pretty sure of themselves. We will wait in anticipation for an official announcement, as Ryan Reynolds would be pretty badass in the Wolvie flick.

Sound Off: Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. You like?

that's not too bad. i mean Deadpool is fuckin' hilarious and Ryan could definately play that part.
    I likey.
  • I'm completely down with that move. Van Wilder is raw, as is Deadpool.
  • ARGO
Deadpool is ok, but not great, for Ryan. Even though Ray Park is still the best guy for the
stuntmen (with Deadpool's head being covered and all). But if I have to choose the most
suitable role for Ryan Renolds in x-men it would be Gambit. Of course he has to learn the
French accent but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

i disagree with argo. he would be a horrible gambit. and gambit's accaent isn't that heavy. but i think it's the perfect role. he's funny as hell and kiks ass wen he needs to
  • overtime
He's the PERFECT character for Deadpool! Not only is he funny like the comic character, but he can also be an action star as we've seen in Blade 3 (excuse the mention)
  • ARGO
I just recently read X-Forces and got interested in DeadPool. Yeah Ryan could pass for this
character. He needs to learn Samurai tho.

By the way, I heard rumors that Ryan will be playing Flash in the new upcoming Justice
    League Movie. Is this true?

I can see him play that i mean deadpool has a dark humor about him and ryan usually plays funny parts. having said that....will deadpool's character be the same from the comic to the film?

From what i can tell they are to ruin Deadpool in this movie! They turn him into some kind of mind controlled cyborg in it. Seeing as how Deadpool has always been my favorite mutant i am quite p*#@ed off about the whole part of this. I have a feeling seeing this in theaters after knowing this is going to make me hate this movie all together. I do think they had the perfect person to play the part however a bad script for the character from what i have researched.
  • the perfect person for deadpool would *really* be eric bana, unfortunately he's probably got a bad taste in his mouth after that horrible hulk movie.

don't believe that he's perfect for the role, go watch "chopper", it was his first movie, he gained like 40 pounds for the part and is hilarious one moment disturbingly unhinged the next, he got the part because he was a stand up comic in Aus for years and specialized in voice impersonations.

not to say that in a *real* deadpool movie ryan reynolds couldn't be great, but bana could take the lows lower.
  • He was so amazing as Deadpool I wish there had been more of him in Wolverine!
