In the interest of full disclosure, I will admit that I had absolutely no interest in the film Witchblade until the moment when I first saw this new teaser poster, which can be seen in high-resolution by clicking the image above.
The story itself is based on a comic book by Christina Z, in which a young female detective comes into possession of a supernatural, sentient artifact with some wicked destructive and protective powers. As she fights to control it and use it to fend off evildoers, she also must fend off an evil industrialist who would like to get the weapon for himself.
It is a likely story, to say the least — chosen one gets a powerful weapon, someone evil wants to take it from them. Then again, there has to be something here, seeing as the comic book series has sold over 100 million copies worldwide since debuting in 1995.
Along with the teaser poster (which again, can be seen in full by clicking above), Platinum Studios has also launched a teaser site where you can go and sign up for email updates. I have entered my email address in the hopes of further updates also featuring a naked woman with a badass weapon for a hand.
Witchblade is being directed by Michael Rymer, who previously brought us Queen of the Damned and In Too Deep. It is due to hit theaters sometime in 2009.
