Will Tim Robbins Join Hawkeye And Black Widow In Iron Man 2?

Now that everyone has had time to calm down over the casting of Sylvester Stallone as The Riddler in Batman 3, it’s time to move on to some fresh rumors for other superhero films.  Namely, an important and plausible casting rumor for Iron Man 2.

tim-robbins-ironman2Latino Review is reporting that Tim Robbins will be taking over the role of Howard Stark, Tony’s dad, from Gerard Sanders.  The character was only visible briefly in Iron Man, so this shouldn’t be as upsetting to people as the Terrance Howard/Don Cheadle switcheroo was.  According to LR,

Tim Robbins is going to be playing Howard Stark in an important flashback sequence that is going to set up the Avengers and Captain America films.  Jon [Favreau] wanted to get a good actor because he didn’t think the guy who played Howard in the last film could carry such an important scene.”

Robbins is golden in anything he does, so this is good news.  Even more interesting though is what LR’s source said next.  Iron Man 2 will reportedly also feature both Hawkeye and Black Widow… and they won’t be relegated to simple cameos either.  So will Howard Stark be shown creating or contributing to the Super Soldier program that leads to Captain America?  And how will Hawkeye and Black Widow factor in to the plot if they’re more than just walk-on cameos?

What do think about the possible addition of Tim Robbins?  Do you think Hawkeye and Black Widow risk complicating Iron Man 2 too much?

As a hardcore DC fan, Hawkeye and Black Widow have always been two of Marvels characters who manage to peak my intrest. This is cool.

If this turns out to be true, avengers could turn out to be an awesome movie! I don't see any way Hawkeye and Black Widow can mess up the realism of IM since neither of them possess superpowers...

    Game On!
  • Wow Tim Robbins, I do see that he will do a good job of following the father image of Howard Stark. I'm so happy they are putting Hawkeye and Black Widow in the movie but isn't Black Widow is part of the S.H.I.E.L.D.? I mean she works with Fury but I can see that maybe Fury wants to keep and eye on Tony in any case so he 'd probably have Widow look or spy on him. I would love to see Bridget Monahan play her and maybe Matthew McConaughey play Hawkeye since he did Tropic Thunder with Rob Downey Jr. But I'm happy with the news. AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!
  • Tim Robbins is a good choice. Hooray for comic films casting legitimate actors ... except for The Spirit. That film will be the comic equivalent of Glitter.

well.. i was kinda hoping for a more iron man focused movie.. afterall, there are so many tales to tell with the title character.. i hate the way marvel studios is using this as a medium to garner attention to the avengers.. i m glad that there are people intrigued with these two characters but i would rather see black widow in a DD film and hawkeye should just wait for quicksilver's n scarlet witch's appearance.

i know the time continuity thing is totally screwed in wolverine origins but at least thats nt a independent marvel studios thing. hope it doesnt turn out the same way for the ironman franchise.
