Blockbuster subsidiary The Weinstein Company has optioned the rights to Rita Marley‘s 2004 book, “No Woman, No Cry: My Life with Bob Marley”.
The book focuses on the couple’s marriage from 1966 until his death in 1981 and the numerous infidelities, separations and derailments that ensued. Rita also defends her management of his estate.
Since I can’t read, I can’t comment on how good the source material is here, but it’s tough for me to get excited about the project. It sounds more like a biopic of Rita Marley than one of her legendary husband.
We reported earlier about Martin Scorsese’s intention to do a Marley biopic due out in 2010. I’m not sure how Leonardo DiCaprio will look in dreadlocks and blackface, but this project still looks infinitely better than the Weinsteins’.
The Rita Marley Biopic is slated for a late 2009 release.
