The Week in Review
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on May 12, 2006
As always, it has been an exciting week here at Film School Rejects. We finished up our coverage of the Tribeca Film Festival, we featured some great under-the-radar films and we continued our HD-DVD reviews. Nothing too terribly exciting, but we hope you stuck around to read anyway. Here is the rundown of how the Rejects hit Hollywood’s offerings this week:
From the Staff this Week:
- Jarvis Mishler continued his reign as our resident Horror/Suspense expert with his review of Dead Man’s Shoes, a film thats bark seemed to be louder than it’s bite. Check out his review and see how it earned grade of D.
- Tara Settembre, who made us all jealous in her chance to attend Tribeca finished out her coverage of the Festival with a review for Wolfgang Peterson’s accident thriller Poseidon, giving it a mark of B- despite the film being “outlandish and disturbing.” She also helped us finish out the week with her review of Friends with Money, starring Jennifer Aniston.
- After taking some time off over the past few weeks, Matthew Alexander came back in force to bring us his usual brand of insightful reviews as he took on Tom Cruise’s highly publicized Mission Impossible III and the French action thriller District B13.
- Brian Gibson, resident DVD guy and newly appointed Associate Editor, continued to rock and roll with his series HD-DVD releases. This week’s selection was Doom, starring The Rock.
- As for me, I had one of the more productive weeks as a writer that I have had in the past month or so. I was treated to “the best film I have seen all year” with Brick and was moved by the urban drama On the Outs. Both great films, and hopefully justifying reviews.
What’s on tap for Next Week?:
Fancy you should ask such a question. You can expect even more great reviews from the team here at Film School Rejects. I will be taking a look at two great family films, Hoodwinked and Nanny McPhee. Brian should be shelling out some info on the recent DVD releases Grandma’s Boy, The New World and The Family Stone. As well, expect to see reviews for these other fine DVD releases: Munich, The Producers, and When a Stranger Calls. And of course we will be covering the two big releases in theaters: The Da Vinci Code and Over the Hedge. We may even throw in a review of See No Evil just for good measure.
Is there any film or DVD that you would like to see reviewed by the Staff of FSR? If so, tell us by using our contact form, found here.
Have a Great Weekend!
