WB 2008 Preview: Ridley Scott’s Body of Lies

Continuing on with our coverage of Warner Brothers’ 2008 movie preview, we get a first glance at Ridley Scott’s upcoming drama Body of Lies. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as an injured Iraq war journalist who is hired by the CIA to track down an Al Qaeda leader. The film was adapted by Oscar winning screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed) from David Ignatius’ novel, Body of Lies.
The project is still being called “The Untitled Ridley Scott Project” by the folks at Warner Brothers, but we don’t feel too bad calling it Body of Lies at this point. It is the kind of movie though, that gives me a glint of early hope for next year’s Oscar season, as it is slated for a winter release. Think about it this way: what if all these recent Iraq War-themed dramas were as exciting as The Departed or American Gangster. Gee, then maybe we would have cared about them a little bit.
Body of Lies also stars Russell Crowe and Carice Van Houten.
