Watchmen Journal: Learn How They Built Rorschach’s Face

Watchmen Banner!!!

We’re less than a month away from Watchmen hitting theaters, and the flood of extras is going to come crashing down soon. I believe I already compared the marketing to an overabundance of water when I claimed we were drowning in posters.

Now, Empire has a very cool technical look at how filmmakers, costume designers, and 3D animators were able to build a face that is constantly shifting and changing:

It’s a pretty fascinating process – one that’s not necessarily new but that Zack Snyder and company have brought some fresh ideas to. It’s also encouraging to see how simple the fixes for something like this can be in this age. CGI and EFX have come a long way, especially in the realm of recreating fluid motion – a tough task that’s been a major hurdle for development. It’s subtle stuff, but small details like that done poorly can ruin a design look.

What do you think?

Minor nitpick: It's not pronounced "ror-shack". It's pronounced "ror-shock". Anyway, that's pretty cool how they made the movements. I didn't really notice the changing blots when I read the graphic novel. A little over a month to go.
