Last night the first trailer for Taking Woodstock, the latest film from director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain), premiered during the Comedy Central show Important Things with Demetri Martin. And since then, it has appeared online in a low resolution format. Lo-res or not though, we feel that it’s important that you get a look this morning. The film tells the story of a man (Demetri Martin) working at his parents’ motel in the Catskills inadvertently sets in motion the generation-defining concert in the summer of 1969. The film also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen), Emile Hirsch (Milk), Liev Schrieber (Wolverine) and Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake). It is scheduled to hit theaters on August 14, 2009.

Check out the first trailer for Taking Woodstock below:

My first thought is that this could very well turn out to be fun, if you’re a hippie. My second thought is that it feels very different than anything we’ve seen from Ang Lee, which is interesting. Third thought, Liev Schrieber in a dress. That makes this film worth keeping an eye on. What can I say? I’m an easy guy to please. Perhaps you will be more discerning when you tell me what you think of the trailer in the comment section below.

That was a generation of consistantly great music, can't they use something other than "Volunteers" when depicting that era?
  • I'm a big fan of Demetri Martin, but with that said, take him out and drop in Patrick Fugit and you got "Almost Famous II". Luckily, I was a big fan of that movie as well, so I'll be seeing this as soon as I can.
