Wahlberg and DiCaprio Experimenting with ‘Cocaine’

wahlbergleo.jpgIn an effort to avoid the impending libel lawsuit from both camps, I’ll state right off the bat that the title refers to both actors’ jumping on board to do a live-action version of the 2006 Documentary, Cocaine Cowboys. Plus, ‘Wahlberg and Dicaprio Experimenting with ‘Cowboys’ would have gotten your attention for a completely different reason.

According to Page Six, who seem to be subtly advertising for The Other Boleyn Girl, Marky Mark and Leo are all set to play Jon Roberts and Mickey Munday respectively.

However, Page Six also claims that DiCaprio’s camp is denying his involvement.

To add to the confusion, there’s also a (brilliant) 1979 Jack Palance flick called Cocaine Cowboys that has a fairly similar premise. Would I rather see Wahlberg and DiCaprio remake that? No. I’d rather see Jack Palance remake it, but he sadly cannot.

I’m guessing Wahlberg starts off as a low-level guy, trying to make ends meet and getting into trouble. He then takes over the heavy dealing, starts leading a life of excess that leads to him alienating all around him and a continually-growing paranoia. Lots of red noses, stacks of Franklins and bullets will be involved.

I hate to sound negative about a movie that isn’t even in the pre-production phase, but it sounds like something my neighbor would love – the other day I went to him to borrow a pot holder and he gave me a Ziploc baggie. I’m sending him a link to this news item right now so he can mark his calendar.
