Valkyrie Trailer Hits the Web
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on November 8, 2007

If you are headed out to see Lions for Lambs this weekend, you can look forward to seeing the first official trailer for Valkyrie, the latest project for director Brian Singer (Superman Returns, The Usual Suspects) and actor Tom Cruise. Valkyrie is based on the true story of a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler at the height of World War II. Cruise plays Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, the leader of the plot. Also starring alongside Cruise is Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Eddie Izzard and Carice van Houten.
If you are not headed out to see Lions for Lambs this weekend, we’ve got the trailer right here. Take a look below.
Is it just me or shouldn’t they all be speaking German? At first glance, I am not impressed with this film. After The Usual Suspects and X-Men, Brian Singer was on a short list of directors whose films were a must see for me, but Superman Returns and now this? I just don’t know any more. And my feelings for Tom Cruise, the second coming of Xenu, are well documented on this site. I will give Valkyrie a shot, but know this — I’m not expecting much.
Valkyrie is set for release on June 27, 2008. You can also check out the high definition version of the trailer over at Yahoo Movies.

This looks good to me. A story that is only mentioned in passing in modern history classes. It won’t be much longer before the name Hitler is removed completely from our history books for fear of offending. As far as folks complaining about the lack of German speaking… In the movie Troy or in the movie Alexander did the folks speak Greek? Give me a break, it’s an English release movie it should be in English.

i agree that i would have absolutely fell in love with this from the get go if it were in german with subtitles. it would have given it a more authentic feel. but i am still very much excited for this movie

The lack of German accents is irrelevant. “K-19″ was villified for its Russian accents, while
“Amadeus” is given little flack for its many American accents and “Gladiator” gets off (Ridley)
Scott-free with the ol’ ancient people spoke Britishy trick. Tom Cruise with a German or
even matching British accent would have been distracting.
I think the movie looks taut and exciting, personally.

This looks like an excellent movie except for one thing, Tom Cruise. He does not make a very convincing German officer. I think they could have made a much better choice for this part.
