This is an independent film made by a German for whom English as a second language, give him a break! Admittedly I've never seen any of the movies Uwe Boll gets shit from people for making, the few Uwe Boll movies I have seen have been quite good. Postal was good and Rampage was excellent. Darfur has gotten rave reviews too. It would probably get even better reviews if it didn't have the name Uwe Boll attached to it, since there is unfortunately a cult of Internet nerds devoted to trashing anything he makes. I have heard a lot of good things about some of his other movies too, like Stoic, Tunnel Rats and Heart of America. It seems that all of the supposed 'shit' movies he's done have been from video game licenses, and maybe with those properties he is more aiming for mindless popcorn flicks than anything too intelligent. However, the original stories he has done are far from 'the worst movies in the world' and probably better than most of the crap Hollywood churns out.

I agree with RobertFure. I've seen every Boll film so far (from House of the Dead onwards). His only really bad ones are Bloodrayne 1 & Alone in the Dark. The average ones are Dungeon Siege and Far Cry. The good ones are Bloodrayne 2 (yes, I enjoyed it), HotD (funny as hell) and Seed, while Postal and Tunnel Rats were awesome, Postal especially.

I can't wait for Rampage and Darfur.

I liked the Postal movie better than the game. Tunnel Rats is next on my watch list, just finished watching Stoic which I’d rate as his best movie so far, I recommend everyone to check it out.

You can’t mock Steven Speilberg? even after he replaced all guns with walkie-talkies in ET?!
*now imagines the scene in Stoic where the guy is sodomized with a walkie-talkie instead of a broom handle*

I agree: You have to diferentiate between the director and the man. You can be an asshole and still make great films… Adolf Hitler was a pretty good painter and architectural visionary, I am told.

I think Boll has been on a pretty decent roll lately, the Boll Roll, turning in like 3-4 actually decent movies. For “House of the Dead” I think if you took out the video game inserts it would instantly be 20% better and if there was less of the bullet time it would be 10% better. I rewatched it not all that long ago and was surprised at how not terrible it was.

I don’t like making fun of Uwe Boll because it’s hip. I like making fun of Uwe Boll because he’s a bad director. Good directors will have multiple good films with a few bombs here and there. Boll has made many bad films (calling House of the Dead “average level sci-fi” is giving it WAY too much credit) with an occasional acceptable one. People don’t fun of Spielberg because his bad films are exceptions to the rule. People make fun of Uwe Boll because his good films are exceptions to the rule.

Boll isn't showing us anything new or offering a way to correct the situation. He is simply showing the killings for shock value.

Tears of the Sun had a resolution and actual involvement by the actors in defending and in some cases dealing back the violence that was being dished out in the tribal wars going on to this day.

But his movies aren't all crap. I 100% honestly enjoyed Postal. I thought it was great. Seed was also good. I've heard good things about Tunnel Rats and “Rampage” got good reviews from some notable online critics.

He was like 2 terrible films, 2 bad films, 1 “bad but enjoyable” film, and a handful of good ones. People make fun of him because its acceptable. You can't mock Steven Spielberg.

Sodomizing a 13 year old makes him a bad person, not a bad director. Learn to separate the person from their accomplishments. People are defending and praising his films, hopefully, not his actions.

The ridicule of Boll doesn't really come off as venomous. He seems to know his movies suck, and plays up an exaggerated version of himself in interviews, making ridiculous claims that any sane person couldn't possibly believe. He's a goof who makes crap films, and he'll never be taken seriously as a director. That's all there is to it, really.

I brought up Polanski because, despite his ass raping, people still praise and defend. Boll has a spelling mistake in his trailer and Cole seems like the good Dr. Uwe just punched a toddler in the eye. Very venomous.

The difference is that Polanski IS a great director who happens to have ass raped a child, and Uwe Boll IS a terrible director who happens to have a spelling error in his trailer.

I don't think anyone's implying that the spelling error makes him a bad director, the way you're implying that sodomizing a child makes Polanski a bad one. These things have nothing to do with their directing ability.

Spielberg made ‘Hook’ and ‘The Terminal’, so even he’s not beyond mocking now and then, but Boll will never ever make a movie comparable to Schindler’s List, Saving private Ryan, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark or Close Encounters. In Spielberg’s case, the greats outnumber the stinkers by a wide margin, and his greats are classics. So yeah, you can rib him for certain films, but like him or not, you have to have immense respect for what he’s accomplished. Boll films, on the other hand, are generally the worst of the worst and he’s the laughing stock of the film world. I’ve heard Postal is actually decent, but I wonder how much of that is just people bring surprised that it isn’t terrible like the rest of his films. So if it IS good, then maybe this is a new beginning for him, but I doubt he can overcome his awful reputation at this point, no matter how many non shitty films he does from now on…

I don't think Boll is trying to save the world. Hotel Rwanda (2004), Rambo (2008), Darfur Now (2007), and Tears of the Sun (2003) are all about genocidal atrocities that happened years ago, most of which still happen today, so it's not like Boll is alone here.

I just don't see why everyone is attacking Boll for shit everyone else does. He's a huge scapegoat.
