Update: Zack and Miri Make a Porno — New Photos, Kevin Smith Talks!

We haven’t seen a real update on Kevin Smith’s upcoming comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno since earlier this month, and that was just a quick update with one photo from the USA Today. Yesterday Kevin Smith delivered an update via his site SilentBobSpeaks.com. As Smith explains, the production wrapped early Wednesday morning, in the most poetic way possible:
Around two in the morning Wednesday, we wrapped “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”. Poetically, it snowed right before we rolled for the last time… just after we’d laid a bunch of fake white stuff for an exterior shot at Zack’s job. It nicely summed up the uncooperative nature of the weather we’d grown accustomed to over the course of the production.
Smith also responded to those who have been upset and confused as to why he has been so tight-lipped about his 8th film, saying that it was intentional, but that we shouldn’t take offense:
Some folks have asked why I’ve been so stingy with the details on this flick, as opposed to flicks we’ve made in the past, during which I was blogging and posting pics galore. There’s no conspiracy behind it, really; I just wanna try something different this time. I want folks to discover the flick for themselves, instead of me jamming it down their throats. I’m also gonna try to keep from over-selling it with hyperbole and absolutes. I’ll let you guys apply those (good or bad) when the time comes. Just know that we had a problem-free, productive shoot in which everyone was firing on all cylinders and the result was THE FUNNIEST FUCKING MOVIE WE’VE EVER MADE!!!
I don’t know about all of you, but I am ok being in the dark if it means that Kevin Smith is delivering the funniest movie of his already impressive filmography. Personally, I was one of the few people on this planet that thought his filmmaking had matured into something almost incomparable with Jersey Girl. My hope is that Zack and Miri can combine the heart and depth of Jersey Girl with the irreverent tone of Smith’s more popular works such as Clerks. But even if it doesn’t reach this pillar of comedic greatness that I hold in my mind for it, it is clear that Zack and Miri is on a path for some success — Smith teaming with Seth Rogen is exciting enough, is it not?
