Tyler Perry is joining the cast of J.J. Abrams’ 2008 Star Trek reboot, according to UGO.com.
The weird thing is Perry is playing Lt. Uhura. That’s right.
Apparently Abrams is a rabid fan of Perry’s previous cinematic adventures in drag. There’s even talk of a Perry-based Star Trek spinoff, you know, like Star Trek: Voyager or Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The tentative name for the Perry spinoff? Uhura: Diary of a Mad Black Communications Officer.
OK. I made most of that up. UGO reports Perry will play the head of Starfleet Academy. And Zoe Saldana (Pirates of the Caribbean, Guess Who?) is actually playing Uhura. The report from UGO also includes some spoilers, so if you are interested in that — be our guest and head on over.
And this guy [NSFW] is playing a Tribble.
