Tucker Max Going to Hell, But First to Theaters
Movie News By Robert Fure on April 18, 2008 | (8) Comments
Bawdy comic Tucker Max has finally managed to get his book I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell headed towards the big screen. Max, famous for his online drunken stories detailing vomit, sushi, diarrhea, and anal sex, has had a handful of near hits and wide misses in trying to get his stories on both the large and small screens.
This privately financed film will begin shooting in Louisiana this summer, after which it will shopped around for distribution. Bob Gosse will direct the script that was written in part by Max, which follows Tucker as he screws up his friends wedding, abandons the friend to chase more poon, and then because all stories need a moral, tries to get right with his buddy.
I’ve read Tucker’s online stuff. Some of it was funny, most of it seemed grossly exaggerated and completely unbelievable, which is fine, considering this is entertainment we’re talking about. I foresee this film flopping and failing miserably, at the moment, for many reasons. Number one, I get the feeling Max, who seems to have quite the ego on him, will play himself. Second, they couldn’t secure real financing and studio support for a comedy that should basically fit right inline with a 40 Year Old Virgin or Superbad or American Pie type slate of films and have that same audience. Third, filming in Louisiana probably is very indicative of a low production budget.
Maybe I’ll be wrong about this, but we’ll have to wait and see how this pans out.
