Transformers in 3D… Awesome.

Transformers in 3D

Around here, the fact that director Michael Bay is “awesome” is an often debated and hotly contested topic. And while we cannot all always agree that Bay’s films are top-notch, we can all at least come to terms with one thing (I hope): the fact that Bay knows how to do visual effects. And when you combine him Steven Spielberg and the crew over at ILM, as was the case with Transformers, the level of “awesome” is taken up another notch or two.

With that in mind, there are no words that can describe the potential result when we consider that Transformers 2, which is due out in the June 2009, could be in glorious 3D. According to a ShoWest newsletter from Dolby Labs, found here. The newsletter lists all of Dolby’s upcoming 3D projects, which are conveniently listed below:

2008
Bolt
The Dark Country
Horrorween
Igor
Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D
The Smurfs

2009
Avatar
A Christmas Carol
Coraline
Frankenweenie
Ice Age 3
Monsters vs. Aliens
Tintin
Transformers 2

As you can see, not only is the Spielberg executive produced Transformers 2 on the slate, but Tintin has made it on there for 2009 as well. On the whole, it appears that while 2008 isn’t going to be exciting for fans of 3D, 2009 is going to kick some serious tail. James Cameron’s Avatar is one of the most buzzed about movie projects ever, Neil Gaiman’s Coraline looks absolutely beautiful, Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie should be very good and Ice Age 3 shouldn’t disappoint either. And that is all before we get to Tintin and Transformers 2.

And just in case you don’t agree — just take a moment to sit back and think about Megan Fox, in 3 dimensions. Now what do you think?
