Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

I believe it was someone in our Sound Off section the other day who questioned the lack of full titling for the upcoming sequel to last year’s runaway blockbuster Transformers. The simply titled Transformers 2 got production underway last week in Bethlehem, PA, with director Michael Bay and crew blowing up stuff left and right in an assuredly awesome manner.

Well, today the outcries of “needs more title” have been answered by Bay and crew, as they have confirmed that the new title for the sequel will be Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. The title gives us a little insight into the plot of the film — we can safely assume that those who have fallen (Decepticons) will rise up and seek/exact their revenge upon the humans. This also gives me the feeling that some fallen Decepticon from the first movie, maybe one that was dropped into an abyss, might be resurrected by a certain other Decepticon who flew away after the credits, only to rain terror on a now college-bound Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) and his uber-hot girlfriend (Megan Fox).

That is just speculation, but if I know Michael Bay — and I do — that is probably the gist of it. Then again, were you really expecting some deep, complex plot? No. Should Bay take giant robots and put them on screen in a 2 hour explode-a-thon, we will all once again be satisfied — no matter what they choose to call the thing.

Sound Off: What is a better name, Transformers 2 or Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen?

I like the name of the new movie-it’s pretty awesome actually. I just pray that when they resurrect Megatron they don’t lose the key to their brian and start calling him Galvatron-(unless they find a way to tie in Unicron as a teaser for the 3rd movie…but no Unicron = No Galvatron, just good ole Megatron)-but that they shed this stupid looking “alien” body and reformat him to look more like the real Megatron we all know and love. Plus, it only makes sense to have Jazz get fixed up by Ratchet. He’s their medic, that’s what he lives for, that’s what he does. Even in the Gen1/80’s cartoon, Ratchet would rather repair and build things than fight-(although he was a pretty decent soilder)-so why wouldn’t he be able to fix Jazz?…I thought that part of the movie was pretty dumb, but here we are. I think a HUGE part of the mistake made is that they’re trying to focus too much on the “human element” in a movie that is supposed to star a group of talking, transforming robots. I mean, we could all spend our day drooling over Miss Fox, but really, I’m not interested in what the human have to say or feel when I’m dealing w/Transformers. Anyway, hype title for the sequel and if they’re smart, they’ll turn the focus more on the robots and less on the humans to set up a third/final movie to the trilogy franchise whereby the Autobots are slated to go up against an ultimate threat to Earth whereby they want to save it and tie-in their home world of Cybertron like they did in the orginal “Transformers : The Movie” from the 80’s, until then, meh and G.I. Joe’s probably gonna blow HUGE chunks as well. They should do a spin-off martial arts/action movie in the veins of a “Batman Begins” vibe that just focusses on Snake-Eyes & Storm Shadow. Ah well, Hasbro and DreamWorks makin’ they money, so what do they really care, right?

I meant to say “key to their brain” not brian up there….sorry.

Rick S. says:

Edward B., keep in mind that the reason why the human element was focused on more than the robots in the first Transformers was because of budget reasons. It cost millions of dollars for ILM to render each of the robots, and seeing as how Optimus and Co. each have “at least” 10,000 moving parts on them…can you really blame Bay for having more close-ups of Ms. Fox’s hot visage than the facemask on Prime or the red eyes of Megs? ;)

Transformers and the Prisoner of the Kingdom of the Goblet of the Fellowship of the Temple of the Order of the Clones of the Chamber of the Raiders of the Sorcerer’s Last Crusade.

Or how about Transformers 2!

Does it really need a subtitle? I don’t think every sequel needs a subtitle. Just think of Attack of the Clones.

The Fallen is a robot in Transformers mythology. Big evil guy. I reckon the Autobots and Decepticons will have to join forces and work together to defeat The Fallen. AWESUM!!!
