Megatron Galvatron Concept Art for Transformers 2

It has long been rumored that the intensely badass, yet short-lived reign of Megatron would continue in the upcoming Transformers sequel, but up until now all we had was some hearsay courtesy of our friends over at CHUD. Back in August, they got a hot tip that said that while the Fallen would be the main villain in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the film would also see the return of the first film’s fallen villain, Megatron. They also reported that Megatron would come back in the form of a tank.

And today, thanks to some scooping from the chaps at Latino Review, we get some further confirmation of these claims. They’ve stumbled upon some concept art that could very well be Megs’ new look, which you can see in its full-sized glory by clicking the image above. To me, this has a very Galvatron feel to it, which makes perfect sense, as Galvatron is most often the recreated version of Megatron. Of course, this could all be more misdirection from the Michael Bay camp, but it seems solid — at least for the moment. Either way, Galvatron would be a wicked bastard of a villain, as evidence by this description:

With vast strength but questionable sanity, Galvatron’s primary weapon is his particle accelerator cannon, mounted on his right arm, which can fire blasts of assorted types, including electrochemical energy and particle beams. He transforms into a futuristic laser-cannon emplacement (similar to a Howitzer) and can, on rare occasions, assume the form of a laser pistol, shrinking as he does so to allow other beings to wield him.

Another fun fact — did you know that Galvatron was originally voiced by Leonard Nimoy in Transformers: The Movie?

What do you think about this concept art? Is it a sign of villains to come, or more bogus hearsay?
