tf2-arclight

The picture above was taken last night at the Arclight Theater in Hollywood, where Michael Bay’s latest explode-a-thon Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen became the first film in the theater’s long, famous history to ever sell out all 15 screens for a midnight opening. And according to Fandango, the Arclight wasn’t the only theater selling through tons of tickets — they are reporting that the highly anticipated sequel brought in an estimated $16 million dollars since it opened at 12:01 am this morning.

If this number holds, it would make Revenge of the Fallen the second highest midnight opening of all-time, falling just short of the $18.5 million that The Dark Knight took in last July. The $16 million take also handily crushes the previous Wednesday opening record of $12 million, set by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in 2007. This was all done on an estimated 3,000 screens. Revenge of the Fallen will expand to over 4,300 theaters this evening and on into the weekend. The question now becomes: how high is high?

How much money do you think Revenge of the Fallen will make by the end of this weekend?
