Trailer Watch: Elizabeth Banks is Scary in ‘The Uninvited’

Emily Browning and Arielle Kebbel in The Uninvited

It appears that this year, instead of releasing a bunch of horror films and thrillers in the month of October, the powers that be in Hollywood have decided to release the trailers for their horror films in October, and release the actual horror films in January and February. One such film is The Uninvited, the latest thriller from Dreamworks, whose last thriller The Ruins turned out to be one of the better films in the genre of 2008.

This one stars Lemony Snicket’s Emily Browning as a young girl who has recently returned home to her sister (and best friend) Alex after a stint in a mental hospital, though her recovery is jeopardized thanks to her cruel stepmother, aloof father, and the presence of a ghost in their home. Elizabeth Banks (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Zack and Miri Make a Porno) plays the stepmom, who appears to have a little bit more than just a mean streak. See for yourself in the trailer below.

The Uninvited is directed by newcomer Charles Guard, who oddly enough served as a Camera Department Trainee on the film Judge Dredd. It also stars Good Night and Good Luck’s David Strathairn and Grounded for Life hottie Arielle Kebbel. It is scheduled to hit theaters on January 30, 2009.

What do you think of the first trailer for The Uninvited?

  • This is a remake of the excellent Korean film "A Tale of Two Sisters" and from the trailer it looks like they've kept several of the key scenes but completely reworked the actual storyline. Lame.
  • Lo
It's just terrible to see what they've done to A Tale Of Two Sisters. This looks like a really really bad interpretation of an incredible horror film.

Man Kebbel is hooot! But seriously...What is it with the Japanese and bath tubs and dark water???

I'm not familiar with "A Tale of Two Sisters", but it sure sounds like a remake of "The Uninvited" starring Ray Milland and Gail Russell.

I love that movie, but it's never had a DVD release.

BTW...maybe the 1944 The Uninvited would be a great addition to Old Ass Movies?
  • @ Jeremy...

Excellent idea. I'm stealing it and claiming it as my own.

    Glad I thought of it.
