The folks at Apple have debuted the first official trailer for Paper Heart, a documentary-style comedy starring Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi. This Overture films release was part of the Sundance 2009 selection and was subsequently reviewed by yours truly. My official reaction: “it was okay.” The story follows Charlyne Yi (Knocked Up) as she sets out on a quest — with camera crew in tow — to figure out whether love exists. Along the way she finds Michael Cera (Superbad) and begins to form a fictional relationship that is based on the couple’s real life relationship. And while it may seem to be confusing and a little convoluted, the film does ultimately get down to the business of being an earnest attempt at doing something different within the romantic comedy genre. It is also light and fun and not without a few laughs, as you might be able to gather from the trailer below.

Co-written and directed Nicholas Jasenovec, Paper Heart is currently set for an August 7, 2009 release. Check out the trailer below or view it in high definition over at Apple.com.

So we shouldnt go to this expexcting Nick and Norah?
  • They should have got Machaunehey (sp? I don’t give a shit) for this one. He could play the hip assistant principle or ex junkie that runs the rec center or something. Passing out advice while having a B story all about him discovering his own love.
