Super Trailer Thursday: Superman isn’t the only one “Returning”

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on May 3, 2006

Thursday is known as Super Trailer Thursday here at Film School Rejects, signifying the day when we rock your world with some of the hottest trailers to the most exciting upcoming releases. But this week seems to be moving a little quickly, as we feel the need for a little early showing of Super Trailer Thursday. Here are two trailers that just couldn’t wait two days, as they are truly larger than life:

Superman Returns

Superman Returns

Get out your Superman underoos, the Caped Crusader is back in full force in Brian Singer’s Superman Returns. Brandon Routh looks the part, but can he act? Superman has come back to Earth to find Loise Lane has moved on to find another man and make a child in the process. He also finds that Lex Luthor is waiting for him with a diabolical scheme. The best part is that Luthor is a very creepy, Seven-esque version of Kevin Spacey. Just check out that evil gaze. Just click the photo above or click here to see the trailer.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest

Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest

Superman is not the only fan favorite making a return to the silver screen. There are plenty of sequels, prequels and remakes to fill our year. Clerks II, Saw III, another Rocky movie, Indiana Jones, more Star Trek, and even Basic Instinct 2 are all films that have the cinema literati scratching their collective head and asking themselves: Has the Hollywood mainstream lost its originality? Ok, maybe that is just me. But for my money the most anticipated sequel of the entire year is Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest. I felt that way even before I almost soiled myself watching the trailer. This one looks to be a rollercoaster ride that far outdoes the lame attraction upon which this franchise is based. You have to see this one to believe it; just make sure you clean up after yourself.

There is plenty more after the cut, including an off the cuff Indie, a terrifying look at revenge, and a wicked scary British flick that answers the question “What happens when you put a group of hot women 200 ft. below the Earth’s surface together?” Just click “more” below.

Dead Man’s Shoes

Dead Man's Shoes

A soldier returns home to seek revenge on a group of men who tortured and murdered his mentally handicapped brother many years ago… Yeah, I know. It doesn’t sound like a riveting Indie classic, but Dead Man’s Shoes appears, at least from the trailer, to be so much more than your run-of-the-mill British revenge slasher flick. It is set for limited release in May and a more broad release during June and July, but Film School Rejects will have an exclusive review in the next week. Yes, we do feel special. Check out the trailer with this link.

Brick

Brick

Film Noir meets high school romance flick with Brick, the first offering from director Rian Johnson. This film will be opening up the Columbus alive! Deep Focus Film Festival tomorrow night, so I am particularly interested. The trailer is probably one of the best Indie trailers I have seen in a while, and the film looks to be something special. Check out the trailer here.

The Descent

The Descent

The director of The Descent, Neil Marshall, described his film as ‘Deliverance goes underground.’ And that may seem to be less than appealing until you find out that the store centers around 6 young females that go on a caving expedition. Sound better now? I thought so. This trailer is solid, and the film looks to be uber-suspenseful. The flick is due out here on the other side of the pond sometime in August. Check out the trailer here.

That’s all I have for you this week. Not bad though, if I do say so myself. Have suggestions for what films we should feature in our Super Trailer Thursday section, just tell us with our handy contact form.

Enjoy!
