You had to know this was coming. Rounders was a great film, but it was a little early for the pop culture explosion that occured around the world of professional gambling that would be brought upon by the televising of the World Series of Poker and – well – the internet. So here comes a movie that captures the vast world of pro gambling and tosses in a few notable stars and a little romance. In Lucky You, Eric Bana (Munich) plays a hotshot poker player who sets out to win the World Series of Poker against his father, played by Robert Duvall; and at the same time he is trying to keep his love life with a struggling singer, played by Drew Barrymore, in check. The film looks alright, and possibly worth a look. It is directed by LA Confidential director Curtis Hanson, so we can be assured that it isn’t going to be a hack job.
