‘Tokyo!’ Trailer Is As Kinetic And Intriguing As The City Itself

Anthology films are always a mixed bag. It’s impossible to find one where each and every story shines, and invariably you’re stuck with sections of the films that you just don’t care about. The new film Tokyo! is hoping to change that perception. And from the looks of the new trailer, it just may have succeeded.
Bong Joon-ho (Memories of Murder) has only made three movies, but they’ve never been less than very good. Michel Gondry (The Science of Sleep) can be hit and miss, but Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a masterpiece. And Leos Carax (Pola X)? Well I haven’t seen a single one of his films, so he’s the X factor here. What’s especially interesting is that none of the three directors are Japanese.
The trailer itself looks fantastic. It’s a great mix of enticing visuals and addictive music, and the core question about whether we change our surroundings or if the surroundings shape us is definitely intriguing. Tokyo! opens in limited release on March 6th.
What do you think of the trailer?
