Timberlake, Samberg Put an Emmy “In A Box”

The Emmy Awards have been trying for a while now to be viewed as a “cool” awards show.  Trying and failing.  (Much like the past decade of MTV Awards shows, but at least the Emmy’s know they’re uncool.)  The two constants of the Emmy’s are the predictable nominees and the steady decline in ratings.  So how do you woo back viewers, gain street cred, and get a mention on FSR?

It’s simple!  Follow three easy steps.  1) Cut a hole in a box.  2) Put your junk in that box.  3) Make her open that box.

Okay, that won’t actually win over viewers, but it will apparently win an Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics.  Yes, that’s right.  Justin Timberlake’s “Dick in a Box”, aired on SNL last December, just won the Emmy for best lyrics.  (Next you’ll be telling me that the unscripted, craptacular movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of Blah Blah Who Cares will be nominated for a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar.)  To be fair, Andy Samberg’s dick was also in that box, and while JT has the bigger name, Samberg had the bigger… contribution.  He was the main writer and producer of the piece.  And to be even more fair, the video and song are pretty damn funny.  At least for the first or fourth time you’ve see it.

If you haven’t see it, where have you been?  It’s only the 7th most viewed video on the internet!  It’s bigger than those dorks on treadmills!  But not as big as “The Evolution of Dance” apparently… you know the one… you got the same email forward the rest of us did.

Check out the uncensored version of “Dick in a Box” on YouTube or NBC’s site.  And watch Samberg’s acceptance speech at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 15th on the E! channel.  That alone will be more entertaining than the actual Emmy broadcast the following night on Fox.
