Thomas Jane Drops Out of Punisher 2!

Yes, you read that right. Our good friend Thomas Jane has dropped out of The Punisher 2. What? How? Why?! All of these are acceptable questions for any fan of great action franchises. In a letter to AICN, Jane expressed a deep sadness as he made his unofficially official announcement to leave the project:
What I won’t do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don’t believe in. I’ve always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch.”
What it sounds like, at least from what I can see, is that the studio (Lionsgate) and maybe even producer Avi Arad (that Marvel guy) were trying to take the film a direction that did not sit well with Jane, the man who ultimately embodies the cinematic vision of Frank Castle. The first movie didn’t do so well, we get it. But that doesn’t mean you take it in such a direction that your star walks away from a project, especially when said actor is so passionate about the role.
So with all that said, and if you read the letter you know that a lot was said, the only thing Tom left out was “why” he is leaving the project. Of course we could speculate, but that won’t do us any good. We have taken that question to the source, Mr. Jane himself, and we should hopefully have an answer for all the Punisher fans out there soon.
Until then, speculate amongst yourselves…
