The Weekly Wrap

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on February 24, 2006

Here at Film School Rejects, we like to do many things. One is to give you a quick summary every Friday that shows what movies we reviewed and ultimately what we thought. So without further ado, here are our thoughts this week:

       Movie Reviews

      • Date Movie reviewed by Neil M. [Rating: D]
“In the world or satire, there is dark satire, there is parody, and then there is this… I like to call it ‘trying too hard.’ The filmmakers of Date Movie, I am sure, set out with the noblest of intentions.”

       DVD Reviews

      • Lord of War reviewed by Neil M. [Rating: A]
“From the opening scene that captivates us with the life of a bullet that ends up destroying a life to the final scene of the film that shows us that in the real world the line between good and evil is as thin as the margin of error for a gun runner, Lord of War more than entertains.”

      • Ultimate Avengers reviewed by Brian G. [Rating: B+]
“There is a pretty cool DVDROM feature that helps you take your own characteristics and matches you up to another Marvel Hero. I was most comparable to Ant Man…WHAT THE HELL?!? Marvel also includes a feature that shows the nationwide voice talent search that was conducted to find the best voice actors for the film.

      • Domino reviewed by Brian G. [Rating: B+]
“The three find themselves twisted in a FBI investigation that involves the mob and their employer. For Domino, this was the exact situation that defines her soul… Heads You Live, Tails you die…”

      • Weather Man reviewed by Brian G. [Rating: C+]
“Nicholas Cage delivers a quirky performance that reminds me of Matchstick Men. The one liners and difficult situations that Cage found himself in, kept me grinning throughout the film. Michael Caine was evocative in playing the overbearing and brutally honest father figure. I think that this film is unexpectedly funny and moving simultaneously. This is a great film to watch if you think that you may be lost in your own life.”

      • Hustle & Flow reviewed by Neil M. [Rating: A-]
“Howard’s performance is absolutely electrifying and massively dynamic. I cannot remember a film in recent history where an actor can give a character such dynamic range between the hard nosed street hustler and the passionate, soft hearted artist without slipping too far in one direction or the other. And this factor alone carries the film to be one of the best dramas of the past year…”
