Pineapple Express

In early February we brought you the leaked red-band trailer for David Gordon Green’s upcoming stoner comedy Pineapple Express, and the response was fantastic. That response sent the folks at Columbia Pictures into a frenzy to try and get a green-band trailer out to the masses. Check it out below.

As you can see, this is a very similar, watered-down version of the red-band trailer. I don’t think it loses a whole lot with the removal of some of the raunchy elements, which is generally a good thing. A raw movie that can be sold with clean marketing is usually a sign of potential success. Take Superbad as an example of that — we didn’t need all the penis humor to make us want to see it, but when we got into the film and that stuff hit the screen, it certainly enhanced the experience.

Pineapple Express is directed by David Gordon Green (Snow Angels, All the Real Girls) and produced by Judd Apatow (insert 90% of the good comedies from the last 3 years here). It stars Seth Rogen, James Franco and Gary Cole. Yes, that Gary Cole. The film will hit theaters on August 8th.
