The MTV Movie Awards Want YOU!
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on April 26, 2007
My favorite awards show, hands down, is the MTV Movie Awards. Think about some of the best movie parodies that have ever been shown at the Oscars and multiply that by 1 entire show. In fact, I could care less about the actual awards themselves; who goes home with a bucket of golden popcorn is useless to me. I tune in for the host and the space between the awards. It just seems like a lot more fun than the stuffy atmosphere that surrounds other awards shows. But then again, it is MTV.
This year the MTV Awards are taking a new approach to some of its movie parodies. It is looking to YOU, the fan. MTV and Yahoo! Movies have teamed up to host a Movie Spoof Contest. All you have to do is dream up a creative movie spoof, shoot it and submit it online. Visitors of Yahoo! will then vote on whose video is the “spoofiest.” The winner will receive an actual MTV Movie Award live on the show, which airs June 3 at 8 p.m.

In related news, /Film reported today that Sarah Silverman will be hosting the show and that “Survivor” creator and Emmy winning producer Mark Burnett has been hired to run the show. All in all, it looks to be a pretty sweet setup! Check out the big version of the Yahoo! Movies/MTV Promotional Poster below:

I wanted to do a spoof on 300, but I could only find 299 and had to give up.
Maybe next year …
