Actually it's entirely possible to believe in alien life forms but not believe that they occasionally visit Earth for anal abduction shenanigans. The 2nd belief depends on the 1st, but the 1st doesn't require the 2nd.
And of course those movies you listed contained fictionalized elements, but their core stories are reported to be (and believed to be) true. The core story behind alien abduction films is utter bullshit with no evidence or reason to believe it has ever happened.

How the hell is it lame? I cant think of why anyone would want to call it lame unless they believe there is absolutely no such thing as aliens. That would make that person kind of an idiot though. ;)
Also, of course a movie being put out by Universal Studios isn't going to be real or based on much truth. I don't care what the movie is; Goodfellas, Catch Me If You Can, Defiance… you name it, there is shit in there that never happened or happened different etc. So for those who believe this movie is supposed to be true… well you are probably of the same intelliegence as the kind I mentioned above.
Film school rejects huh… yeah I can see why.

i feel alien abductions are far from being a lame subject. alien abduction could be quite compelling for film if the topic wasn't approached with such a heavy hand. the second they try to sell 'true story' i automatically get skeptical, and the following real footage/interviews they purport to show comes off as super fake. then, you've got actors recreating these scenarios, so it's heaping fake upon fake. they really go off the deep end with that levitation crap. over the top is fine for movies…as long you aren't making TRUE SHIT GOING DOWN HERE a selling point.
