The internet is alive this evening with chatter of a promotional reel for Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming star-mongering actioner The Expendables. Since its inception, this project has been high of mind for geeks around the web, many of whom cannot wait to soil their seats on the day that Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren (among others) stand together on mission for blood. The trailer you’re seeing below, which comes courtesy of reader PatientZero, is the type of promo piece that films without distribution make to show to studios. It has enough to reveal the tone of the film, give insight to some of the story and show off some of the pretty action, but is not glossed up like a ‘for the masses’ promotional item. So it’s a bit dry in places, but it hits hard with some awesome action as well. Just know that there’s a lot left to be done — color correction, ADR sound polishing, etc.

The Expendables tells the story of a group of elite American soldiers who are hired for an incredibly dangerous mission, to uproot a nasty South American dictator. The film stars Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Eric Roberts, Dolph Lundgren, Charisma Carpenter, Giselle Itie, Brittany Murphy, David Zayas and Amin Joseph. The film opens on August 20, 2010.

Trailer has been removed at the request of Lionsgate.

Still no word on the rating? This is one of those movies that is make or break based on the rating. If they neuter the action it will be a disaster.
  • I'm sure it's going to be R. Rambo was "R" and did well enough for a sequel, so I doubt Stallone would tone down Expendables.

Well I say that because there was some quote from Stallone himself...no wait, it was the producer of the film that said this was going to likely be PG-13. To gain "new, younger fans" for Stallone was the reasoning.

This looks absolutely badass! Just the right # of explosions, ass kicking, and one-liners you only hear in movies like this. And it has Angel from DEXTER as a bad guy! I'll go see it.

You should check him out in the HBO show Oz, he was a bad guy in that and was incredible. Much better than his role in Dexter, a show I also like.

This looks awesome. I agree about the rating being a sticking point, but if they have that much post to do, I imagine they might not even be sure of what rating they are looking at from the MPAA (although I hope they have one they're shooting for). Which is hopefully R.

I mean, it has to be, right? They know the audience to shoot for here. And you've got to follow in the footsteps of Commando.

And, yes, I'll be hoping for a John Matrix cameo at the end of this as the potential new bad guy for the sequel, The Expendables Go Hawaiian.

This looks awesome. I hope you have a receipt from your coke dealer cause he gave you some bad product. You have dropped sir in the ratings of critics. The movie does not look awesome, unless you are being facetious, and by facetious I mean high as a mothaF@#$ing Kite!!!

This is not awesome this is the opposite of awesome. Could Jean Claude Van Damme have been right by not being in this movie. Or could he have been put over the top by appearing in this following JCVD? Movies like these can be found in the dollar been at Generic Stores all around America. Or Cosco, if you have a membership card.
  • he's right. there were two copies in my local Generic Store's dollar been. i couldn't check Cosco, because IT DOESN'T EXIST YOU FOOL. this movie is gonna Chan-zen from Jing-woo aka The Best. what's wrong with you?
  • icarus2dsun
I was going to get mad but then you spelled BIN Wrong so I let it go. This movie DOES NOT look good. It looks mediocre, not the worse but not good like people are making it. So you sir can suck it!!
