The Dark Knight Flies Over Billion Dollar Mark

Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight

We all know bats are blind. The question is do they know the smell of cash? The Dark Knight does.

This weekend, The Dark Knight went over the billion dollar mark worldwide, having officially clawed in $1,001,082,160 to date. Do you think our friends at Warner Bros. are doing happy dances and smoking cigars made of thousand-dollar bills? Think that they are going to do everything in their power to ensure Christopher Nolan stays on with the franchise? We do too.

The number is relatively small compared to the all-time worldwide box-office leader, The Ship That Sank Bank Accounts … we mean Titanic. It pulled in $1,842,879,955. Pardon us as we slam our heads against a wall and continue making our Celine Dion voodoo doll.

Are you surprised The Dark Knight has done so well worldwide? Which celebrity would you make a voodoo doll of?

  • I've reached the point in my Dark Knight fandom where I can see the imperfections in the film. I, like a lot of people, felt the editing was weak. The pacing hits speed bumps at times. I am also sad to see this turning into the next Nightmare Before Christmas. I swear, Hot Topic should just change it's name to "Joker & Jack's" (Skellington and Sparrow), because sooner or later that's all the stuff they'll sell in there. I mean, where the hell am I gonna be able to buy an Iron Maiden shirt in my town?

    Cease rant. Thanks for listening.
  • Always happy to hear it. You need to check out the Iron Maiden documentary coming out.

yeah i still am amazed at how much titanic made. that movie did not deserve what it earned. and no tdk was not overrated. for me, it lived up to and exceeded all of my expectations. can't wait for the next one!

    The flick was/is highly overrated
  • Overrated in relation to what? The Fantastic Four? Daredevil? Try to consider the genre it is in. Now think about how much better of a film it was than others in that genre. It's not overrated at all.

I'm actually surprised that TDK didn't do a little better.
  • TDK deserves this. It's a damn good movie, no questions asked.
  • I'd go for Heath Ledger. Then I'd pull a Chucky or whatever and bring him back to life!
