The Dark Knight Blu-ray Details and Cover Art Released

The Dark Knight Limited Edition Blu-ray

Today Warner Bros. finally announced some of the details around the December 9th Blu-ray release of the year’s highest grossing film, The Dark Knight. As expected, the release will include a very special 2-Disc Limited Edition set that will feature a Bat-pod statue along with the movie and supplemental features. You can see more of the box art for both the Limited and standard Blu-ray releases in the photo gallery below.

For me, The Dark Knight could very well be one of those “game changing” Blu-ray releases. Having spent years working in consumer electronics retail, I can tell you that a few releases have come along that have spurred fans into adopting new technology. Back in January 2002, the DVD release of The Fast and the Furious had fans reaching for post-Christmas sale items, buying Playstation 2’s and $110 DVD players in order to see Vin Diesel and Paul Walker drive around in supped up Honda Civics. And just last year, the now dead HD-DVD format saw a major boost with the release of Transformers. For movie fans that have been holding out, mostly because of the continuing high prices of equipment, The Dark Knight could be the kind of release that pushes them over the edge.

Would you consider buying a Blu-ray player in order to get The Dark Knight in high definition?

Heck, no. Throw away around 400$ to buy this movie that's overrated anyway? Nope.

Don't get me wrong, the movie is excellent, but enough is enough.
  • Nikkon
Meepo, imo it's worth it. Overrated.....ha....funniest thing i heard

I'll settle for the boring old standard DVD.

I think this might cost me a few hundred dollars. I've been itching for an excuse to buy a blu-ray player (got the 1080p tv, but no blu ray) and this might be it!
  • Ryan
Absolutely! This movie is great, and I'll probably get the Batpod set just because it was one of the best movies I've seen in theaters in a while
  • Did anyone pay attention last year? With Black Friday Sales coming in a couple months, everything electronic is going to be on sale. That includes Blu-ray players, Blu-ray discs, and HDTV's. Blu-ray won the format war less than a year ago, and the general public is finally starting to understand what it is. And then there is going to be Christmas sales. The prices of everything Blu-ray are bound to come down, and HDTV sales are going to sky rocket. The Dark Knight on Blu-ray is going to be the game changer. It was the same for The Matrix when it was released on DVD. The Dark Knight is the hottest, most talked about movie of the year, and come Christmas, everyone is going to want to watch it on their fat, brand-new HDTV. Blu-ray is going to benefit tremendously from all of it.
