The Curious Promo Materials of Benjamin Button

Confession time. David Fincher is my favorite living director, I grew up loving F. Scott Fitzgerald’s work (specifically his short stories), and I love Cate Blanchett in pretty much everything she’s ever been in. And that even goes for her Hepburning out in The Aviator. Oh, and I can handle Brad Pitt despite his inability to escape his own celebrity while acting.

That being said, I’ve had a really tough time trying to get excited about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It might be because the tone seemed sort of lackluster in the previous trailer or because I’m simply tired of the formulaic Oscar Bait preening, but no matter the reasoning, Paramount has unleashed a ton of material to help change my mind.

Brace yourself.

We’ve got new posters for Blanchett…

…and for Pitt…

…a fantastic new international trailer…

…and six new production photos that you can largify by clicking on…

It may be sacrilege to admit that I still have to be won over on this bad boy, but the new trailer is a great start. The backward one-sheets are a good touch, too. It’s clear that Fincher is bringing a gorgeous eye to the style of this odd drama, so I’m hoping that on Christmas Day, I’ll be awe-struck and clapping right along with everyone else when it sweeps a ton of technical award nominations and a few creative award nods for The Oscars.

  • Dave, I really don't know. I have no rational explanation for my lack of major interest. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, but I'm just not going crazy for some reason - like I usually do with Fincher.

Maybe I secretly hate Brad Pitt?

Anyway, it's good to see that a ton of people are hyped about this.
  • !film this about excited very am I

But seriously I am also a huge Fincher/Blanchett/Pitt fan and this can't come quick enough. I get what you mean about the Oscar stuff but that's studio BS not Fincher and on reading his new interview in Empire this seemed like a passion project and he said he'd been circling it since '92. What else has failed to set you alight if you don't mind my asking?

I read Fitzgerald's story years ago and always thought it could be a fascinating film.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they pull it off and how Pitt plays the role.

    any more excitement yet?

I think this movie looks incredible and I'm actually devising a plan to either convince family to all go to the movie theatre on Christmas, or to sneak away myself.. I'm really pumped about this and loved the short story (even though I'm sure there will be obvious changes for the screen).
