Burn After Reading

Apple has debuted the first trailer for the upcoming Coen Brothers film Burn After Reading, and surprisingly it is of the red band variety. The film, which stars Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand as two gym employees who come across a CD full of CIA secrets and use it to try and improve their financial situations. In doing so, they not only anger the agent who lost the secrets, played by John Malkovich, they also incur the wrath of another agent, played by George Clooney. The first trailer can be viewed below:

I will be damned if those Coen Brothers haven’t gone back to a little intelligent slapstickery in the wake of their big Oscar win for No Country for Old Men. This film combines a great cast with a simple premise, but appears to deliver something special. Notable is Brad Pitt’s character, who just looks goofy at times, but in a “so outrageous it’s funny” sort of way.

As a fan of the Coens, I was already looking forward to this one, but seeing this trailer has put me over the edge — looks like another potential winner.

Burn After Reading hits theaters on September 12, 2008. The trailer can be seen in high definition over on Apple.com.

  • Looks great! I can't wait for this. The Coen's are at the top of their game. And it probably helps that I love John Malkovich.
