Ya, I realized that after seeing the post from chille.

I haven't watched the movie Moon, so I don't know how it is.
I probably wont watch it though, as the movie didn't even make $10 million in the Worldwide box office.

Kudos for posting the entire nomination list, Neil, unlike that other film blog.

I think District 9 deserves the top spot and the visual effects category. I was emotionally moved during that film and to me that counts as something. The only reason Avatar looks so great is because a crapload of money was thrown at it. What District 9 achieved with its significantly smaller budget should be taken into consideration by the Academy. Don’t hold your breath, though.

Even though I am still on the fence about Inglourious Basterds, I would like it to win Best Picture if District 9 doesn’t. I think Tarantino is long overdue for that award and Best Director.

It’s great that Avatar wasn’t even nominated in the relevant script category. Also, Cameron’s direction isn’t exceptional so I don’t know why he’s there.

You can hound me all day about how great The Hurt Locker is but I couldn’t get past the main character putting his fellow soldiers in imminent danger with his bullshit stunt. After seeing that he wasn’t reprimanded, I turned the film off. I hope it doesn’t win anything major.

I am glad that In the Loop was nominated but I know it won’t win. Delbonnel deserves a win in Cinematography, and Zimmer deserves a statue in Best Original Score.

Thats a lot of technical, I mean it's also technically not as it's happenings are ignored in the series that aired at the end of last year. Just saying I think some academy rules are ridiculous, I hope it wins it just seems a bit odd to win adapted.

I don't know how Hurt Locker got nominated, but I thought that movie was bla at most…30min into it I wanted to stop but thought to myself that's it's almost over so i'll just finish it…well what do you know, it was 2hrs! I shoulda paid attention to the play time.

Hurt Locker is a great movie but we still need to think about how much creativity and energy went into both movie. Hurt Locker was intense, bringing out an entire different side of the men working hard in Iraq but movies like this have been made before even if they weren’t as good as the Hurt Locker. Avatar on the other hand is changing the movie culture, an entire different realm of movie making. I personally hope Avatar wins, not because Cameron is a favorite but because his movies changes the entertainment industry. May the best director wins.

Yes, but I think we all already knew that Up is guaranteed to win the Best Animated Film Award. It is also obvious that Up won't be winning the Best Picture Award (looking at the competition).

You probably wouldn't be saying this if there were two or more Animated films in the best picture nominations. The category of Best Picture, does not say Best non-animated Picture or Best live action Picture … so, I don't see what's wrong with UP ending up in the Best Picture nominations. If an animated movie is worth winning the Best Picture award then it should definitely have the opportunity to win it by being nominated in the Best Picture Nominations. It is necessary to still have the Animated film nominations to recognize the other good animated films of 2009.

Talking about crossovers, what if a movie is only half animated … which category would it belong then? I would say it can only belong in the Best Picture nominations since the Animated film nominations should be 100% animated. In other words, any movie can be nominated for the Best Picture.

The biggest surprise is In The Loop being in the Adapted category. Adapted from what exactly? Is this the academys weird way of saying it included adlibbing? Or maybe because of the TV series that also includes Malcolm Tucker and his Scottish henchman and NO other shared characters? Weird.

Typical BS with the nominations, but I take issue with Up's noms for Best Pic and Best Animated. How is that a “delightful surprise?” Doesn't a Best Pic nom mean Up is the Best Animated by default? (And I'm not agreeing that it is by the way.) They're different categories for a reason, and if there's going to be crossover than they should get rid of the Animated category all together.
