Steve Guttenberg Threatening to Stage a Comeback

Posted by Rob Hunter (rob@filmschoolrejects.com) on November 28, 2008

Remember Steve Guttenberg?  The comic wit?  The smirk?  The abnormally well-defined pectoral muscles?  No?  Well he remembers you, and like that stalker ex-lover of yours he wants back in your life.  The Sun is reporting on a recent radio interview with Guttenberg, and apparently he threatened revealed the prospect of two long awaited sequels in development.

It’s been fourteen long years since Police Academy: Mission to Moscow, the seventh film in the venerable franchise, made us laugh and cry.  Guttenberg left after the fourth film, and has regretted it ever since.  “I turned down Short Circuit 2 too and I now wish I hadn’t. Sequels are a lot of fun and you get to hang out with all your friends. I wish I hadn’t turned those down.”  But Guttenberg isn’t prone to looking backward for long (except for the rare occasions he finds himself at the Blue Oyster Bar) and instead is focusing on the future.

We are doing a new movie and it is going to be great fun,” he said. “A script is being written and so far it is really great, everyone from the original movies who is still around will return.  I know Kim and Sharon have been asked but they haven’t said yes yet. It would be really great to have them on board.”

Great fun!  And why wouldn’t Kim Cattrall and Sharon Stone return?  Cattrall’s only other prospect is the Sex in the City sequel, and Stone… she did say yes to Basic Instinct 2 after all.  (And who knew Stone was even in Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol?)  If they end up declining the opportunity to reunite with their academy pals, they won’t be the only ones.  David Graf, aka Sgt. Eugene Tackleberry, is wisely claiming to have died in 2001.

Guttenberg’s other warning revelation concerned his 1987 hit, Three Men and a Baby.  The film starred Guttenberg alongside Ted Danson and Tom Selleck in a light-hearted tale about a baby and three men forced into caring for her.  Aside from being a huge money-maker for Touchstone Pictures, the movie is best known for the scene with the ghost boy in the window.  It wasn’t actually that bad of a film, and it was far superior to the follow-up, Three Men and a Little Lady.  Guttenberg has the title for the third film ready.

Tom Selleck, Ted Danson and I are looking to make another Three Men And A Baby movie. It’s called Three Men and A Bride. The script is pretty much written and we are really keen to get that made. We’re very hopeful.”

Sounds like a very promising cross between the original film and Kill Bill.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed shall we?  With any luck, if the fans support Guttenberg’s dream, we’ll soon get to see a sequel to P.S. Your Cat is Dead! too.  This could be his Pulp Fiction or his The Wrestler people!

Are you stoked for these sequels?  Do you think either would even reach theaters or go straight to DVD?  Weren’t Guttenberg’s pecs just dreamy back in the eighties?  How does the picture of Guttenberg and the dog make you feel?

  • I could of sworn this guy died on January 31st 1989 right before the stroke of midnight along with Louis Gosset Jr., Goldie Hawn, Kirk Cameron, Corey Feldman/Haim, etc. So sad; many people died that night.

Yeah... Go away Guttenberg. The world is getting along just fine without you.

P.S. Police Academy sucks. The only good thing that came out of those movies was the guy who did the sounds.

P.P.S. It just occurred to me you're probably reading this. I don't hate you, Steve Guttenberg, I just don't think you have any talent. At all.

Ronnie I agree with you, but whats wrong with Kirk Cameron? I dislike all the rest very much, but Kirk is kool in my book. I mean he might be a little preachy & religious & what not, but he was the man back in the day like Zack Morris. Steve Guttenberg sucks.
