Star Trek Pushed Back to May 2009

Paramount Pictures sent us word last night that there will be a few quick changes to their 2008/2009 release schedule and as you may have already heard, it includes a delay in the release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. Orginally scheduled for a Christmas Day 2008 release, Trek will now hit theaters on May 8, 2009.
For all intents and purposes, this is not a bad move at all, especially if they are having production delays. We can assume that this is a fairly large and complicated production, and I think that Star Trek fans will be ok with an extra few months of waiting time provided Abrams gets it right. Again, that’s if he gets it right.
Paramount also announced the following changes to their schedule:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the next film from David Fincher that stars Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton and Elle Fanning will move from November 26, 2008 to December 19, 2008.
The Renee Zellweger’s star vehicle Case 39, about a woman who tries to save a girl from abusive parents, will move from August 22, 2008 to April 10, 2009.
Nowhereland, a family comedy starring Eddie Murphy, gets pushed from September 26, 2008 to June 12, 2009.
The Ben Stiller-directed Tropic Thunder (remember the one with Tom Cruise in the fat suit?) has also been pushed back, moving from July 11, 2008 to August 15, 2008. This puts it in a much better position, releasing with The Accidental Husband and Dragonball rather than right up against Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
And finally it was announced that Revolutionary Road, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, will be distributed by Paramount Vantage. It is set for a December 19, 2008 release.

[sobs] But I wants it soon!
[high pitched whining sound] No fair! No fair!
Oh well, I think everyone can agree that a delayed Cruise film is always a good and not a dick move. :P
