JJ Abrams Talks about Star Trek

Even before the Starship Enterprise returns to space to explore the outer reaches of the endless Universe, the potential of endless cash has Paramount thinking sequel to JJ Abrams upcoming film, Star Trek.

Star Trek is still eleven months away from landing in theaters, but Paramount is thinking ahead. They’re trying to get the entire team locked in for sequels. It’s not a real shock. If the film is a success they can avoid further contract negotiations and potentially get the entire crew of this Enterprise ready to go for more cinematic missions.

It is still amazing, that a series that lasted for barely three years, 1966-1969, is still thriving in new incarnations.

The original series with its beloved characters, Kirk, Spock, Sulu, Scotty, Uhura, Bones, and Chekhov, has spawned an entire range of new takes on the original. There’s been an animated series, eleven feature films, four new series which included a prequel series, the only one not to complete is seven year mission and now this new film.

JJ Abrams Star Trek is film number twelve moving on with a new cast as the original characters.

The revival of the original characters is a not only a bold move but an intelligent one. Star Trek fans for the most part embraced the new characters that were created to continue the spirit of the series. A return to the original personalities played by a new cast injects new life into what has become a beloved classic.

To close this little bit of movie news I wish to take this opportunity to offer my sincere congratulations to George Takei, the man who created Hikaru Sulu on once again boldly going where, well, few gay men have been allowed to go before. Takei and his partner of 21 years, Brad Altman are getting married on September 14 in the state of California. A state which can be applauded for dragging itself kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Maybe the world of Star Trek with its many different humans peacefully co existing isn’t just sci fi anymore?

May we all live long and prosper.

Well this film still has to kick ass in the theaters.

So far we've seen NO photos of the cast together, NO photos of the uniforms, NO photos of the sets.... Its nothing but hype and a vague trailer. Also if the performances are off expect the hardcore fans to get upset.
I've read alot of fan buzz (not Trekmovie) that hate this idea. Its a huge risk going back to Kirk and Spock.
We will have to see what happens first. This could be a spaceshipwreck.

Btw, this upcoming film is No 11 not 12, and the TOS also didn't go a full seven years only 3. Enterprise did 4 in case your wondering.
