Stallone, Statham, and Li Are ‘The Expendables’

Maybe it’s just me, but this is the coolest casting announcement I’ve heard in quite some time.

Now technically, Jet Li is still in negotiations… but per The Hollywood Reporter, Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham have already signed to star in The Expendables. If Li does sign, then this movie officially becomes a must see. Stallone, Statham, and Li together in one movie? All kicking ass at a combined age of 143? Sure their individual films are hit and miss, and sure the Li/Statham pairing in War kind of sucked, but add Stallone into the mix and this is officially awesome.

The Expendables is about a group of mercenaries sent to a South American country to overthrow a dictator, but honestly, the plot is irrelevant. They could be bakers competing in a Food Network Challenge to save the orphanage where they all first met as children for all I care. Stallone, Statham, and Li together in a kick ass action movie! Did I mention it’s going to be written and directed by Stallone? Remember the last movie he wrote and directed? A blood soaked little surprise called Rambo?

The picture is the first of a two picture deal Stallone has with Nu Image/Millenium Films. “Making films with Nu Image/Millennium gives me as the director the opportunity to make the films I envision,” Stallone said. “I am happy to be partnering with them again and am looking forward to working with Jason and Jet.” The second picture is expected to be the next installment in the Rambo series. Yes please!

Am I the only one excited by this news?

  • This does not excite me, but I would see it on Laser Disc.

Since it'll only be released on Laser Disc.

I thought Li had retired from western cinema at least. If he does sign up, it would be a kick-ass movie!

So, basically this is Inglorius Bastards with a group crappy actors? The only way this may be good is if all the characters are dressed the same as in the above picture. Stallone finally got a little bit of cred back and this is where he goes? To the infested lands of Statham / Li movies? Has he not seen One? or War? Or The Transporter 1 or 2?

Statham and Li have already appeared in a little movie called "WAR" and it was very very bad. Not even the fight scenes were worthy of the price of admission.

So, don't get too excited guys.

I am prob more excited about your Food Network idea. Maybe then it'll be funny on purpose. I gave up on Stallone with his Rocky and Rambo return. Thats prob how he got the deal, by doing another part of two franchises that should've been left alone. Statham was only good in the first Transporter...and thats about it. I could use some more Jet Li with my tea, please.

    Sweet.

Screw you guys. Rambo was so much better than 90% of the other craptastic action films out there. Stallone showed what hard core realistic vilence was about.

I am so tired of seeing Super Human action stars that are able to take down multiple people with the wave of their over practiced hands. Simply shoot them, case closed.

Bring it Stallone I will be there.

    Aleric, YOU SAID IT BEST!!!
