Maybe it’s just me, but this is the coolest casting announcement I’ve heard in quite some time.

Now technically, Jet Li is still in negotiations… but per The Hollywood Reporter, Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham have already signed to star in The Expendables. If Li does sign, then this movie officially becomes a must see. Stallone, Statham, and Li together in one movie? All kicking ass at a combined age of 143? Sure their individual films are hit and miss, and sure the Li/Statham pairing in War kind of sucked, but add Stallone into the mix and this is officially awesome.

The Expendables is about a group of mercenaries sent to a South American country to overthrow a dictator, but honestly, the plot is irrelevant. They could be bakers competing in a Food Network Challenge to save the orphanage where they all first met as children for all I care. Stallone, Statham, and Li together in a kick ass action movie! Did I mention it’s going to be written and directed by Stallone? Remember the last movie he wrote and directed? A blood soaked little surprise called Rambo?

The picture is the first of a two picture deal Stallone has with Nu Image/Millenium Films. “Making films with Nu Image/Millennium gives me as the director the opportunity to make the films I envision,” Stallone said. “I am happy to be partnering with them again and am looking forward to working with Jason and Jet.” The second picture is expected to be the next installment in the Rambo series. Yes please!

Am I the only one excited by this news?
