Space Chimps

This little gem of a movie was passed over by my radar, possibly because it takes place in space.  Ouch, dumb joke.  When I first clicked on the link to the new Space Chimps website, I was expecting some humdrum new animated comedy that I would not care about.  One of the producers from Shrek is onboard, and I’m one of the few that doesn’t give two hoots about anything green and ogre-ish.

But I’ve got to admit, the trailer they’re hosting over at the official site is pretty funny.  Andy Samberg and Patrick Warburton each lend their comic stylings and voices to the flick, and it also features a snippet of the Beverly Hills Cop theme, which you can’t go wrong with.

The film follows the spacely adventures of a trio of chimps rocketed into space by an opportunistic Senator.  The trailer doesn’t reveal all that much beyond that, but some plot synopsis’ may indicate that there could be some alien involvement for our fine furred friends.

The site gives you a few things to tool around with and promises more to come, but the trailer is definitely worth a look.  Space Chimps blasts into theaters on July 18th.
