Sofia Vergara Sexes Up ‘Smokin’ Aces’ Prequel

Universal Studios’ prequel to the underwhelming Joe Carnahan action crime thriller Smokin’ Aces now boasts actress Sofia Vergara, who made the announcement while conducting interviews for her latest film, Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail. Vergara, who is, to be perfectly cliché, smokin’ hot, told interviewers, “I’m like an assassin.” Adding to her eloquent explanation, she commented, “I just got the part yesterday.” Sometimes the adage that hot girls shouldn’t talk really should be followed.
Actor Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) will return to the franchise (is it really popular enough to be called a franchise? I mean, aside from Jeremy Piven’s performance, the original sucked ass) to bring back Laszlo Soot for the prequel, but the rest of the names being thrown around as cast members for Smokin’ Aces: Blowback are still nothing more than rumors (Chris Pine, Kevin Durand, Nestor Carbonell, Brian Bloom and Maury Sterling, to name a few).
P.J. Pesce (Lost Boys: The Tribe, 2008) will direct the prequel, although what possessed him to do so we have no idea. Smokin’ Aces was a box office disappointment, considering its cast, which in addition to Jeremy Piven included Ryan Reynolds, Ray Liotta, Wayne Newton, Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, Peter Berg and a host of others. Whether Blowback will see theaters or be released straight to DVD is yet unknown, but we’re leaning towards the latter. Then again, you never know in Hollywood.
