Zack Snyder Gets Animated

Zack Snyder to direct Guardians of Ga'Hoole

What would you do if you had torn through Hollywood on storm, laying down bloody decapitations in Dawn of the Dead, spilling blood by the gallon surrounded by nearly nude men in 300, and adapted the gritty violence and rape infested Watchmen? Well if you’re Zack Snyder, direct the animated children’s film Guardians of Ga’Hoole. Surprising, to say the least.

This will be Snyder’s first animated film and the script is written by John Orloff (A Mighty Heart) and John Collee (Master and Commander) based on the property Kathyrn Lasky. The picture is set up at Warner Bros., who just love them some Snyder (he has a primo parking space on the lot) and is set for a 2009 or 2010 release. Wow, 2010. Where is my jetpack? Sorry I digress.

I’m not quite sure on my thoughts about Guardians yet. It appears to follow the lives of a sentient owls and all of the goings on in their world. There are already 14 books written of a planned 25, so their is a lot of adventuring going on, I’m sure. The book is often described as a cross between Watership Down and “epic fantasy of your choice.” Which on the surface, of course, sounds cool.

If anyone is familiar with the books, please hit us up below and let us know you’re thoughts. Personally I think Snyder can make almost anything cool, and a bitching war between Owls and anything is probably going to be awesome.

Stay tuned for updates.

  • Guardians of Ga'hoole is a fantastic series, not a little kids picture book and to see it being adapted into a feature animation is more than enough excitement for 2010 for me! :D Starting off with the first three books, even though the series has not yet ended, is great, because Book Three has a good enough ending so as not to leave the readers (and watchers) a cliffhanger. I look forward to this!

P.S. 25 books? Why does everyone keep saying that? I've looked at every movie sneak peak of this movie, and every person says the series is going to be 25 books, when the author officially announced Book Fifteen will be the last... Weird - where did you guys get that info?

I absolutely love the Gaurdians of Ga'Hoole books! I'm reading book #10 right now and i can't wait to finish! I had hoped that the thing about having 25 books was true but based on the things bookworm said i guess that's probably not really happening... I can't wait for the movie though! I just really hope that they don't change up the script too much. If these people ruin this movie I'm gonna be really disappointed. I really can't wait for the movie cuz Gaurdians of Ga'Hoole is the second best book series I've ever read! (The first best is the series of books about the Deptford mice written by Robin Jarvis- starting with the Dark Portal.) but of course that's just my opinion.... I'm sure anyone who's ever read The Gaurdians of Ga'Hoole will love to hear that theres a movie coming out about it! I know I did!

i must agreee with WaterWolf- GUARDIANS OF GAHOOLE are awsome and are my second favorite series (next to the feral cats of WARRIORS by Erin Hunter). And its true-there are only 15 books in the original series, with a "Guild Book to the Great Tree" and a "Lost Tales Of Yore" that i belive is still on the way. I'm counting down the days untill it comes out [in theaters?] and i hope the graphics are awsome! If more movies are made of the other books, i'm sure you'll have to edit out the sware words in book eight. Anyway, lets make that movie rock the socks off America!
  • its not a childrens book gilfie and soren kill all of the owls at saint angies you stupid nob!!!
