Shatner and Nimoy Mix it up over ‘Trek’ Reboot

Who is the finest actor to ever walk the Earth?
If your answer wasn’t William Shatner, you got it wrong.
Take Shatner and imagine him in the Brando role in Apocalypse Now. What happens? It’s suddenly a much better movie. Or, at least, the last half hour is.
So it’s pretty hard to believe that J.J. Abrams, set to direct the latest Star Trek film, would invite Leonard Nimoy to make a cameo and not Shatner. That would be like saying, “Whatever happens, we don’t want this movie to be awesome!”
Oh, sure, say what you like about how Star Trek V sucked. It did. And so did Star Trek VI and VII. But that was before Boston Legal. I know that doesn’t make sense with the conscious-thinking part of your brain, but if you think about it in the abstract, it’s totally rainbow–like listening to Shatner’s rendition of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” after smoking some doobage dipped in embalming fluid.
(This site does not endorse nor encourage the smoking of doobage dipped in embalming fluid. Sure, sometimes said activity will cause you to see through the moon and into the Mother of Black Holes where you can come to fully grasp the non-existence of time. But most of the time you just wig out really hard and piss yourself. And then die.)
Anyway–what was I saying?
Oh, yeah. It’s really hard to believe that Shatner would be left out of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot. So I think /Film’s Peter Sciretta is right on to suggest that it’s all a bit of schtick. Nevertheless, Shatner schtick is always good schtick (say that real fast five times after smoking some doobage dipped in embalming fluid–it’s like the universe totally explodes, and you open your mouth and a train comes out of the fireplace–presuming you don’t piss yourself and die).
Sciretta has written up a recent exchange between Nimoy and “Le Shat” at a Q&A here. It is Kirk komedy at it’s finest.
