Shane Black Moves Past Lethal Weapon 5 to Cold Warrior

The last time we checked, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black was talking about a fifth installment to the Lethal Weapon franchise. But according to a report from Variety this morning, it appears that more Weapon will be put on hold in favor of Cold Warrior, which tells the story of a spy who comes out of retirement to team with a younger agent from the new school to confront a domestic terrorism threat orchestrated by Russia.
For those who enjoy a good actioner — and I do — this should come as good news. Because despite the generic premise, Shane Black has always had one of the better action minds in the business. He penned all four Lethal Weapon films, as well as The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Last Boy Scout and one of my all-time favorite underrated action-comedies Last Action Hero. Oh, and did I mention that he wrote and directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, arguably one of the better movies of the last 5 years? Needless to say, Black knows what’s up.
More details are still to come for Cold Warrior, but at this point we know that Black is attached and the script was written by relative newcomer Chuck Mondry.
What do you think about Shane Black’s next project?
