Frankly, I think it is a BRILLIANT maneuver on Kevin Smith's part. (And the Weinstien Company.) If I recall correctly, his last couple of films have done either terrible (Jersey Girl) or moderately well. (Clerks 2) Worse still, no one really cared either way. (His films are not $100 Million dollar flicks.)

Kevin Smith may be many things, but stupid is not one of them. (I'm a fan by the way, before anyone thinks differently.) Invariably he knew (As well as the Weinstein Company I'm sure.) that just having the name porno in the title would cause an uproar. That uproar would generate more publicity that any generated in a conventional sense.

Let's face it, "regular" movie goers are not flocking to Kevin Smith films. They never have and most folks will just look down at him as a "half rate" amatuer film maker who is clever with dialog, but otherwise not worth the celluloid his movies are printed on. (Again, I'm a fan and not only see his movies in the theaters but purchase the DVDs folks. I personally LIKE Kevin Smith films so no hate mail.)

Leaving in the name porno and making a stink about the film will get more folks into the theaters, or at least paying attention, than otherwise would have happened. If this film is as good as it's supposed to be, the extra "notice" generated will equal more money at the box office and perhaps Kevin Smith's first film that breaks major dollars.

While I agree that the Weinstein Company has done a clever job working around their
difficulties, I still cannot fully understand how certain places have a problem with the word
"Porno" in the title of this movie, but just four years ago I'm sure, the same groups had no
problem with and in fact were all agog about a film with the word "Focker" in the title.

What I don't see is why they just don't disguise the title into something more "tasteful". 'Zack and Miri Make a Contemporary Adult Film' for example.

I definitely think that regardless of the "censorship" of the film in the media, this would have done well in theaters. Seth Rogen and Kevin Smith? Comedy fans rejoice! Etc Etc. I can't speak on anywhere but Canada, but we don't have the same problems, so it may be comparable to look at the domestic office here to the US office.

Anyway, I think that its going to benefit from the "censorship" because now when people see it or whatever, they can all giggle and feel like they're "rebelling". They're going to go see it regardless of what mainstream media says, damn it!

Of course, the movie will then succeed because it's fucking hilarious, but it's important to get people in the door first.

Also, those halloween 'costumes' are awesome.
