Seagal to Star in Direct to DVD Action Thriller

Posted by Joe Ngo (joe@filmschoolrejects.com) on September 20, 2007

post-seagal.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter states that Seagal is going to star in A Higher Form of Learning. This direct to DVD release, which Seagal wrote himself, is being directed by Jeff King. Insight studios and Cinetel are collaborating on the project. Camera are set to start rolling this week in Vancouver. Says the Hollywood reporter:

The story centers on a detective who travels the world in pursuit of serial killers. He finds himself in Memphis hunting two murderers while also chasing his own demons.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen Seagal. His most recent theatrical release was in 2002’s Half Past Dead. Maybe this will be a reminder of his glory days, like when he made Under Seige and Executive Decision. It’s gonna be tough for Seagal as getting older makes action movies that much harder to pull off.

The highly profitable Direct to DVD market has grossed nearly 3 Billion annually since 2005.

Mister Hand says:

The least surprising headline in film history: STEVEN SEAGAL GOING STRAIGHT TO DVD.

“I just read the greatest screenplay yet written.”

“Oh really? Who wrote it?”

“Me.”

That was Seagal singing the praises of one of his previous crap movies. I wonder if he is making such claims regarding this latest project.
