Saw IV Gets an NC-17 and Bousman to Remake Scanners

panel_bell.jpgIt’s big news week in the movie business — go figure, it is Comic-Con weekend after all. Earlier today during the Lionsgate presentation we got a chance to take a first look at the fourth installment in the very popular Saw series. On hand to present some clips were director Darren Lynn Bousman, producer Mark Burg and a special surprise guest — Tobin Bell, otherwise known as Jigsaw.

You may be asking yourself, “what the hell was Tobin Bell doing there? Didn’t Jigsaw die in the last one?” That is correct, he did die. But as Mark Burg explained, that doesn’t mean he can’t pop up in the next flick. He promised fans that they may not understand it now, but by the last 5 minutes of the film they will be pleasantly surprised at how they pull it all off.

panel_bousman.jpgAs for the blood and torture aspect, one of the reasons why Saw has reached such a mass appeal, director Darren Lynn Bousman was quick to say that the film is the “most intense of the three.” So intense that it received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA just this morning. We would have been fast to report that, but my battery ran out. Thankfully the nimble fingers of Peter at /Film caught it all.

One thing I did catch that seems to be slipping below everyone’s radar is when Mark Burg casually let fly the fact that after his next project Repo, Darren Lynn Bousman will stick with the Lionsgate and Twisted family to remake Scanners. How no one caught that is beyond me, but it was said — I have the tape to prove it.
