Saul Bass Inspires Us to ‘Burn After Reading’

A few weeks back we brought you a good look at the first red band trailer for the upcoming Coen Brothers movie Burn After Reading, which stars Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand as two gym employees who come across some secret CIA documents left behind by a retired agent (played by John Malkovich), only to attempt to use the documents for the purposes of blackmail. It looks like a damn funny film, another potential gem in the filmography of last year’s Best Picture winning directors.

Today our good friends over at Cinematical debuted the first poster for the film, which is based on the art of the legendary Saul Bass. Bass, who passed away in 1996, was both an academy award winning filmmaker and a noted graphic artist. His work includes such films as Vertigo, Anatomy of a Murder, The Man with the Golden Arm and West Side Story (all pictured above). The new poster, designed by a firm called Mojo, looks pretty damned cool as well.

Burn After Reading is set to hit theaters on September 12, 2008. It will also star George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, J.K. Simmons and Richard Jenkins.
