In my days as a script reader, you'd be amazed at how many writers or writer/directors just give up on creating some creative slasher and decide to just write a movie about trying to make a movie that ends with people dead. I'm reading scripts right now as a favor to a friend and I've literally got 2 on my desk that both deal with film crews making a movie and a murderer picking them off.
