Watch out Chloe Mertz… you may have some competition when it comes to roles involving young girls, guns, and murder.

The Hollywood Reporter (via Heat Vision) says Saoirse Ronan is in talks to take on the title role in Hanna for director Joe Wright. The script is about an Eastern European teenager who has been trained by her father to be a cold-blooded killing machine. She spends some time with a French family living the life of a typical teen, but is soon forced back into the dangerous world of her father and is forced to fight her way back to freedom.

This sounds tentatively awesome.

Awesome because girls and guns are a fantastic combination. I smell shades of The Professional here although the report links it more closely to La Femme Nikita and the Bourne movies. Ronan is a strong actress in the very limited amount of roles she’s had so far, and it will be interesting to see her tackle something a bit more hardcore.

But I say tentatively awesome because director Wright doesn’t exactly scream action director. (Which means he should probably direct the next Bond movie right?) The best thing about Atonement was Ronan’s performance, and aside from Pride & Prejudice Wright hasn’t really done much to prove himself as a truly entertaining filmmaker.

Can you see Ronan as a teenage hit girl? Should Mertz be watching her back here?
